Encouraging Youth
The Lions Clubs International Peace Poster Contest has been conducted since 1988 in local schools by encouraging young people of the ages 11, 12 and 13 years to artistically express their visions of peace.
Promoting the Arts
A variety of mediums including charcoal, crayon, pencil and paint can be used to create a unique work that expresses the young artist’s life experiences and culture and spark their imagination. Each poster is judged on originality, artistic merit and expression of the theme of peace.
This year’s peace theme is "Journey of Peace".
Local Judging
Each school will select their top 10 entries using the above criteria
of originality, artistic merit and expression of the theme.
Subject to sponsorships each participating school will have an overall
winner selected from their entries Each student will receive a
certificate of participation.
Entries displayed during the Festival will be judged by a panel
selected by the Austinmer Thirroul Lions Club Inc.
That winner will receive an appropriate prize.
A “Viewers Choice” entry will also be selected from the Festival
display.
Overall Judging
Winning posters ( 1st in each school) , an overall winner, plus the People's Choice ( based on votes received on the Saturday), will be on display at the Festival. The overall winner and the People's Choice winner will be announced and presented with their awards. The overall winner will be endorsed to continue to the Lions District Finals where one entry is chosen to progress to National Level. The National Winner will progress to and attend the International Competition which will be judged in the USA. At the International level judges from the arts, peace, youth and media select one grand prize winner and 23 merit award winners.
Peace Poster Display
Peace posters are on display in Kings street Thirroul, on the Saturday of the Festival. On the Sunday the winning entries will be displayed at the Park behind Thirroul Surf Club.
